The Importance of a Bridal Photography Session (+ How to Prep for One)

One of my favorite services that I offer is a bridal photography session. A bridal photography session is the perfect way to see your full bridal look come together while preserving the excitement, jitters, and joy you feel before your wedding day.

Think of it as a wedding day test drive. It gives you the chance to test your full look, feel more comfortable in front of the camera, and take some of the pressure off the big day. Here are the three reasons why a bridal photography session is so valuable, along with my best tips for how to prepare for one.

01. Test Run Your Full Wedding Day Look

One of the biggest reasons to schedule a bridal photography session is to see your full wedding day look in action before the big day arrives. From the way your hair complements the neckline of your dress to how your makeup photographs, and how your gown moves when you walk, this is your chance to make sure everything feels just right altogether.

A bridal session allows you to notice these things ahead of time, so nothing feels like a surprise on your wedding day.

Pro tip: Schedule your hair and makeup trial on the same day as your bridal photography session. This lets you see exactly how your hair and makeup photographs and gives you time to make any adjustments with your bridal beauty team before the wedding.

02. Get Comfortable in Front of the Camera

Not everyone feels instantly comfortable in front of the camera, and that is completely okay. For many brides, this is one of the most important reasons to book a bridal photography session.

Your wedding day is one of the biggest and most emotional days of your life, and having a photographer by your side all day can feel a little intimidating. A bridal session helps take away the pressure. It gives you the chance to get comfortable with your photographer, learn poses that feel natural, and discover what you love most in your portraits.

Pro tip: Bring someone with you to your bridal photography session, like your maid of honor, your mom, or both. They can help with your dress, handle quick beauty touch-ups and offer a little extra support and encouragement throughout your session.

03. Takes Stress out of the Big Day

Another important part of a bridal session is how much stress it can take off your wedding day timeline.

Your wedding day includes so many moments, moving pieces, and a lot of photos. Knowing that some of your bridal portraits have already been taken allows for more breathing room and less pressure on the day itself. It can give you more time back on your wedding morning, make you feel more relaxed, and lighten your overall timeline.

Trust me, your cheeks will already be getting a workout from smiling all day, but having some of those portraits taken in advance can make all the difference.

Pro tip: Let your bridal session be a time to truly enjoy wearing your gown before you say, “I do.” Slow down, soak it all in, and treat it as a special part of your wedding season.
